Agouti

This locus is probably the easiest to recognise the effects of, and one which all fanciers recognise. Two alleles at this locus:

• A - Agouti, gives yellow banding to the fur
• a - Non-agouti, fur is the same colour from base to tip

No other mutations at this locus have been confirmed, although one breeder in the US claims to have melanistic rats (a^m), and some people have theorised a white bellied agouti as is found in the mouse.
