Hawthorn Rat Varieties

This gene affects only rats who are Siamese, Himalayan, or albino. Its existance is not scientifically described [I am using this symbol just out of convenience], but it appears to work with the following alleles:

Bu - Burmese, semi-dominant gene affecting the extent to which the c-locus alleles restrict colouration.
bu - Recessive wild type allele, no effect.

This gene is currently "theoretical", so the notation used for it and the mode of inheritance currently theorised may change. The current thinking described above is based on breeding results so far. The show standards are based on c^hc^h based rats - these varieties can also be c^hc or cc based, the main overall colour varies little but the quality of the points is poorer in the c^hc based, and the points are non-existant in the cc based rats.

bu/bu c^h/c^h Siamese

a/a Bu/bu c^h/c^h Burmese - rich medium seal brown, with deep seal points

a/a Bu/Bu c^h/c^h Sable - similar to the body colour of the Burmese all over, with slightly darker points

A/- Bu/bu c^h/c^h Burmese agouti - a pale sandy colour, with darker brindled seal points

A/- Bu/Bu c^h/c^h Sable agouti - a rich almost cinnamon colour, with darker brindled seal points
