If it is possible to have favourite parts of the rat genome, then this is my favourite. The c-locus gives us many varieties, and probably many more to come. There are three known alleles at this locus:
- C - Full colour, dominant wildtype (ie "no effect")
- ch - "Himalayan" Any combination with ch will be pointed
- c - Albino, completely strips away all pigment
In general, it does not make any real noticable difference whether rats of these varieties below are agouti or non-agouti based, though it is sometimes possible to see this difference in very dark Siamese rats.
